The dried, shelled seed of the tropical evergreen tree Myristica fragrans is used to make nutmeg. Nutmeg spice is a rich source of proteins, minerals, oils, and resins and has a number of health advantages. Tropical areas such as Indonesia and Malaysia are home to Myristica fragrans plants.
This tree exists in many species in North-Eastern Australia, India, and Sri Lanka. Nutmeg oil is not only therapeutically useful but also a scent ingredient in cosmetics. In order to prepare nutmeg oil by distillation, worms are allowed to feed on nutmeg seeds. The component of the seed rich in oil is produced when the worms take the starch and fat from it.
