Hi Guest!

No problem - this forum is for medical billing in dentistry, so while medical coding for implants in various parts of the body is not our forte, medical coding for oral implants and removal of oral implants certainly is!

Below are some common CPT codes used for placement & removal of oral implants:

21248 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); partial(3or less)
21249 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); complete (4 or more)
20670 - Removal of implant due to complications (superficial)
20680 - Removal of implant due to complications (deep)
21210 - graft, bone; nasal, maxillary, or malar areas
21215 - graft, mandibular
**use modifier -52 for reduced services when bone is not obtained from patient

Hope this helps!

So we bill for an implant Code 21249.

Does that include the implant parts itself or should we also bill for 99070 supplies and materials.

I guess it could also be the same question for graft materials as well

Hi Guest!

Great question. Typically, the codes for bone graft and/or implant will include supplies as part of the allowed amount. However, if you were to bill supplies separately, you could certainly use 99070.

Hope this helps!
