Oral Surgeon office. Do I use code 99152/99153 OR 00170 to bill anesthesia.
All medical insurance companies seem to be different on what they will pay on.
And, do you bill each code individually (per 15 min) or lump some with total units and dollar amount
I appreciate any help

Hi Guest MH!

Great question. The coding set 99152-99157 should be used when it is moderate (conscious) sedation.

The anesthesia codes i.e. 00170 should be used for deep sedation.
00170 doesn't have the time increments attached like the moderate sedation ones. For moderate sedation, if the patient is over 5 years old, you will use 99152 for the first 15 minutes, and then 1 unit of 99153 for each additional 15 minutes beyond that.

Hope this helps!
