I am trying to write a claim for a bicycle accident in which the patient went over the handle bars and completely lost #8, and subsequently #7,9 and 10 were fractured and now being extracted with Guided Bone placement for future implant.

There's a code for everything, so what is the code for this type of accident?

Thank you

Hi Guest!

Great question. Based on what you described, here are some diagnosis coding options for you:

K03.81 - Cracked tooth
K08.411 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class I
K08.412 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class II
K08.413 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class III
K08.414 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class IV
K08.419 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, unspecified class
S02.5XXA - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for closed fracture
S02.5XXB - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for open fracture
S03.2XXA - Dislocation of tooth, initial encounter

As for the code for the bicycle accident - it actually depends on why he went over the handle bars for that code :) For example, if he hit a person, animal, other bike, etc or if it was non-collision.

These codes below are not specific, but so you have an idea of the categories available for bicycle (aka pdeal cycle accidents) - if you can let me know which one applies i am happy to offer you some specific coding options:

V10
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with pedestrian or animal
V11
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with other pedal cycle
V12
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with two- or three-wheeled motor vehicle
V13
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with car, pick-up truck or van
V14
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with heavy transport vehicle or bus
V15
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with railway train or railway vehicle
V16
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with other nonmotor vehicle
V17
Pedal cycle rider injured in collision with fixed or stationary object
V18
Pedal cycle rider injured in noncollision transport accident
V19
Pedal cycle rider injured in other and unspecified transport accidents

Hope this helps!
