No it is not required to use both K04.7 and K02.9 (and no the dental caries codes are not used to indicate the location of an abscess). If both are present and applicable to the condition you are treating you certainly can, however K04.7 is a diagnosis that can stand alone.

if you have dental absess K04.7 do you still need to code dental caries of K02.9?

isn't it part of K04.7?

is dental caries location of the abscess?
