Great question. I would think treatment of canker sores will be deemed not medically necessary in many cases, however low level laser therapy is billed using:
S8948 - Application of a modality (requiring constant provider attendance) to one or more areas; low-level laser; each 15 minutes

As for units - each unit is 15 minutes per this code's description.

Can laser treatment be billed for the treatment of canker sores. If so what is the code and how would it be billed, time, unit ??????
